Thomas Report – Access to Specialist Neuromuscular Care in Wales

The Cross Party Group (CPG) on Muscular Dystrophy’s new report, The Thomas Report: Access to Specialist Neuromuscular Care in Wales, was launched in July 2010 in the Welsh Assembly following a nine month review chaired by Dr Dai Lloyd AM. In respect of Ray Thomas’ lifetime of campaigning for better access to medical care for people in Wales with a neuromuscular condition, the final report of the Review was named the Thomas Report. Campaigners gathered outside the Welsh Assembly for launch and called for improvements to services. Patients, families and clinicians from across Wales met Assembly Members (AMs) to discuss the report’s findings and recommendations. The report was presented to Health Minister Edwina Hart AM. The evidence published in the Thomas Report emphasises the need for the Welsh Assembly Government and NHS Wales to take urgent action to address the significant gaps in the provision of specialist neuromuscular care highlighted by expert witnesses.
